Abstract
The paper presents, in broad outlines, the concept of theFormal Safety Assessment, a newly proposed official methodologyfor the rule-making process in IMO. It examines possiblepotentials and drawbacks of the proposed methodology and attemptsto identify the most important long-term consequencesof its application in the international shipping and shipboardoperations.References
